Join the Friends of SFCV
Like many of the groups SFCV writes about, we too are a small nonprofit organization. We depend on the support of generous donors to pay our writers and editors, keep our Web site running, and improve this free and independent service to the community.
What you read each week naturally costs money to produce. SFCV spends an average of $250 for every article we publish, when you count our payments to writers to attend concerts and document their insights, and to editors to assign articles, develop story ideas, help make the writing clear and effective, and publish everything online. That's not including our modest overhead budget for Web site hosting and maintenance, routine office expenses, and a fundraising effort that's minuscule compared to the big outfits. In fact, the vast majority of whatever you may contribute goes directly into the production of what you choose to read.
A donation of $40 pays for part of the cost of one more article that you and the Bay Area's presenters rely on. $100 keeps our site functioning well for about a month. $250 funds the continual improvement of the service and the addition of new features. $1,000 or more significantly underwrites our coverage of any number of the genres we follow opera, symphony, chamber music, recitals, choral music, early music, contemporary music, festivals, youth music, world music, and musical theater and helps us find new writers to expand our already widespread coverage in important regions such as the South Bay, East Bay, and North Bay.
SFCV is supported almost entirely by our readers' generous contributions and grants from far-sighted foundations like the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Clarence Heller Foundation, the Wallis Foundation, the Mervyn Brenner Foundation, the Gambs Family Foundation, the Shenson Foundation, and many others over the years. Your donation will be generously matched by our founding supporter, the Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation. And since we are a fiscally sponsored nonprofit project of the Community Initiative Funds of the San Francisco Foundation, your gift is tax-deductible.
