Thanks for your generous and thorough review of the Symphony Silicon Valley's opening concert. Yours was the only review that mentioned, or indeed noticed, that the oboe cadenza in Beethoven's 5th was improvised by the Principal Oboist, as suggested by Beethoven himself.

As much as I've prepared for and dreaded the day when you surely would announce your wish to retire from all the responsibilities of SFCV, I still feel a sense of shock and enormous disappointment at the prospect of your departure because your writing has enriched my thinking and music enjoyment so much. Your writing flows so beautifully and you've always made your cases so clearly. Please know that I, and, I'm sure, every other SFCV reader, will watch with anticipation for your future contributions, and I send deep appreciation for your accomplishments with this newsletter.
Renato Rodolfo-Sioson's review of Richard Goode's Sunday evening recital expresses exactly (and much more thoroughly and succinctly!) my response to the performance. And the closing words of the review can be used to express how I've felt about your contributions: YOU, Mr. Commanday, are a TREASURE!
Good wishes for your retirement time.
I will remain an enthusiastic subscriber of SFCV!
With warm regards,
