Regarding Mr McBaine's commentary on the opera situation in LA and SF we could not agree more. We saw the two LA productions and enjoyed them both tremendously.
On the other hand, while not everything the SF opera does is garbage, much too much is. We were called by the SF opera to contribute beyond the face value of our two orchestra season tickets and told them not only "no" but "hell no", we need the extra money to fly to LA to see big-time opera done right, or to drive to San Jose to see medium-time opera done excellently.
