LISTENERS' BOX May 2, 2000 Response To: "Inspiration All Around"

I always enjoy your lead editorial as well as many of the fine reviews. Regarding this week's I have some additional thoughts. As a senior citizen student-level performer, I belong to a number and variety of music clubs where members perform for each other. Even though many of the performers are not professionals, I have learned a lot from listening to and observing their live performances, about the repertory, details of musical compositions, varieties of interpretations, things that enhance a performance, as well as things not to do. Performing for these groups is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to deal with matters of stage fright, etc. I would recommend it even to aspiring professional musicians.
There are many similar benefits in attending workshops like the many chamber music workshops offered at places like, Chico (State U.), Humboldt (State U.), Ashland (Southern Oregon State U.), Claremont (College) as well as many other places outside California. Keep up the great work!
