Opera fans have options from organizations other than the local opera companies alone. San Francisco Symphony's June festival includes performances of Zemlinsky's entire A Florentine Tragedy and excerpts from his Der Zwerg, June 910, conducted by James Conlon, and featuring Carol Vaness and James Johnson. Conlon also conducts the Verdi Requiem, June 1625, with an operatic A-list of Christine Brewer, Stephanie Blythe, Frank Lopardo, and Vitalij Kowaljow.
In addition, keep your eyes on Philharmonia Baroque, which has a rich history of presenting full-length Handel operas, and American Bach Soloists, which regularly presents Baroque opera.
