AVE takes a look at the holy character of how our country views the earth in a concert entitled This American Land. With predominantly American composers, spanning from the first Western music presumably ever heard on this continent (psalmody of Bourgeois – whose 500th anniversary is this year) to Navajo chant, to a traditional Haitian piece, to African-American spirituals, to Shaker music, to pieces composed as recently as a few months ago, AVE opens the ear and heart to the uniqueness of the American respect for nature. Joined by Native American flutist, Blue, as well as percussionist Katja Cooper and pianists David Goodman and Richard Benefield (four hands), Artists’ Vocal Ensemble returns to its full size of sixteen professional singers. Under the direction of Jonathan Dimmock, this program promises to delight, uplift, and soothe. Composers include Judith Cloud, William Billings, David Goodman, Peter Hallock, Frank Ticheli.
