Christmas in Antwerp and Amsterdam

California Bach Society Christmas in Antwerp and Amsterdam

For its holiday concert, the California Bach Society, under the direction of Paul Flight, presents Christmas in Antwerp and Amsterdam, showcasing masterful and influential music from the Low Countries, written in that area’s most powerful time in history. A lively consort of viols, recorders, and percussion joins the 30-voice chamber chorus for these performances. The program features gems by Josquin and Lassus, the Franco-Flemish geniuses of the High Renaissance; charming traditional holiday carols by lesser known composers from the 16th and 17th century; as well as three beautiful Christmas motets by Sweelinck, the 17th century Amsterdam composer who represents the end of the polyphonic tradition.
