Sinfonietta Fall Classic
The El Camino Youth Symphony is proud to present its 50th Anniversary season! The season-long musical celebration highlighting the best of ECYS continues with the Sinfonietta Fall Classic Concert on November 17, 7:30pm at Spangenberg Theatre in Palo Alto. The program will feature Haydn’s Symphony 95 and Cello Concerto in C Major, Mvt I, Bennet Huang, soloist; Schubert’s Rosamunde Overture; and Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in F minor, Mvt. III, Alex Chang, soloist.
Student soloist Bennet Huang is a thirteen-year-old eighth grader at Jordan Middle School in Palo Alto. He began cello lessons with Dr. Vicky Wang at age eight and is currently assistant principal for the Senior Symphony's cello section. This is his third season at ECYS. He was co-principal in Sinfonietta Orchestra and Galbraith Honor Strings. Bennet was a winner at the CMTANC and the US Open Chamber Music Competition. He also performed at the Junior Bach Festival and won the Palo Alto Teacher Music Scholarship.
In addition to cello, Bennet is on the 2012-2013 Junior National Gymnastics team, the National Gymnastics Development team in 2010 as well as 2012, and the Northern California All-Star Gymnastics team. During his free time, he enjoys playing board games and reading.
Young artist Alex Chang, age thirteen, is an eighth-grader at Miller Middle School in Cupertino. Alex's love for music began at age seven when he learned to play the piano. He picked up the clarinet in fifth grade and studied under Ti Huang. Currently, he is studying with Stanford University clarinet lecturer Mark Brandenburg. Alex joined ECYS when he was in sixth grade and has won the ECYS Solo and Concerto Competition twice. Alex was the principal clarinetist in ECYS's Wind Orchestra and Sinfonietta Orchestra during his two past seasons, and he is now in the Senior Symphony.
The Sinfonietta Orchestra is directed by Dr. Camilla Kolchinsky, now in her nineteenth season with ECYS. Dr. Kolchinsky’s education includes a Master of Music Degree from the State Conservatory of Moscow and the completion of a doctoral level program in conducting at the State Music Conservatory of Leningrad.
