Marin Symphony Elizabeth Pitcairn returns with "The Red Violin"

Immerse yourself in 18th Century Splendor and Elegance. Alasdair Neale conducts Mozart’s “Great” G minor Symphony (No. 40) and Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, performed and lead by violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn in the style of Vivaldi's day.

Ms. Pitcairn performs in partnership with the legendary 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius, affectionately known as "The Red Violin," said to have inspired the 1999 Academy Award-winning movie by the same title.

Barbara Quick, author of Vivaldi’s Virgins, joins Alasdair Neale in conversation, pre-concert (6:30-7pm).

Certainly you’ve heard Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, both live and on recordings, over the years. But have you heard it played on a violin that inspired an Academy Award–winning movie?

That’s what’s in store at the Marin Symphony program coming up on Nov. 1 and 3. The “Red Violin” that inspired the 1999 movie of the same name is what violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn will be playing as a guest soloist.
