Known for the discovery, commissioning, recording and mentoring of some of today’s best emerging composers, the Calder Quartet plays a central role in this season’s Art of Migration festival, a collaboration with the UC Davis Humanities Institute, and Departments of Music and Theatre and Dance. The quartet will perform works by festival composer-in-residence Lei Liang—called “one of the most exciting voices in new music” by The Guardian—as well as new works by composition fellows. It is a perfect fit with a group that continues to work and collaborate with artists across musical genres, spanning the range of the classical and contemporary music worlds, as well as rock, dance and visual arts.
