Continuing Oakland East Bay Symphony's exploration of music from and influenced by other parts of the world, "Notes from the Philippines" features Filipino artists. Oakland native David Requiro has emerged as one of today’s most promising young cellists. Requiro was first-prize winner of numerous prestigious awards (including the Naumburg, Washington and Irving M. Klein International Competitions), and he makes his OEBS debut on this concert. Also on the program will be 2 new works, 1 by jazz pianist and composer Victor Noriega and another by local jazz artist Art Khu. An pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey at 7 p.m. precedes the performance.
