Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra The Concerto - An Adversarial Friendship

In October, PBO welcomes the return of audience favorite and friend to many in the orchestra, Elizabeth Wallfisch. The period-violin specialist has crafted a program of Baroque concertos that is designed to illustrate the theatricality and often adversarial nature of the concerto form. Opening with Georg Muffat’s sophisticated ode to friendship, the program includes Georg Philipp Telemann’s grand and youthful joust (Concerto in C major for Two Violins) and Johann Heinrich Schmelzer’s posturing swordplay (Die Fechtschule), finishing with Johann Sebastian Bach’s dramatic Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major.
