RAGAZZI BOYS CHORUS HOSTS SingFest!
BOYS WHO LOVE TO SING WELCOME
REDWOOD CITY (November 18, 2011) — Junior crooners are invited to sing their hearts out when the Bay Area’s acclaimed Ragazzi Boys Chorus, renowned music education and choral arts performing organization, hosts SingFest!, a free half-day of musical games and fun with like-minded songsters. Boys between ages 7 and 10 who love to sing are invited to participate from 9:30am – 1pm Saturday, January 21, 2012 at the audition location in Redwood City. No singing experience is necessary; those interested in participating must pre-register by calling (650) 342-8785 or emailing ragazzi@ragazzi.org.
SingFest! is a casual gathering consisting of singing games and activities, during which boys sing as a group and individually. At 12:45pm, parents are invited to enjoy a short performance by the boys. Though not required, those participating in SingFest! can also audition for Ragazzi during the day through easy, stress-free, and fun small group auditions.
Through training in vocal development, music theory, sight-reading, and stage presence, Ragazzi prepares boys to be accomplished performers of outstanding musical works. In addition to gaining superb musical training and performance experience, Ragazzi boys forge close friendships and develop self-confidence in their ability to learn, teach, and interact with both peers and adults. According to Ragazzi Artistic Director Joyce Keil, “It has been my experience that young people respond passionately to powerful music. For boys who join Ragazzi, musicianship and choral training provide life lessons in leadership, teamwork, excellence, and perseverance, and a deep appreciation of the power and beauty of music beyond our cultural differences.”
Founded in 1987, Peninsula-based Ragazzi Boys Chorus is one of the San Francisco Bay Area’s premiere music and performance organizations for boys. Currently, there are more than 160 singers from 100 schools in 26 Bay Area communities participating in the program. Ragazzi means “boys” in Italian and is the term used in opera to refer to children’s voices. Ragazzi has performed with the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Symphony, Opera San Jose, West Bay Opera, Lawrence Pech Dance Company, Peninsula Symphony, Masterworks Chorale, and the Stanford University Symphonic Chorus. The group has toured throughout the United States and internationally, most recently to Cuba. In 2000, Ragazzi was honored for its contribution to the San Francisco Symphony’s Grammy Award–winning recording of Stravinsky’s Perséphone, and has produced five CDs: Good News! 10 Years of Ragazzi Singing; A Holiday Collection; Canciones de Alabanza; Magnificat, My Spirit Rejoices; and the recent Splendors of the Italian Baroque.
