San Francisco Choral Society Verdi's Requiem & McCullough's Contraries

The 200 Voice San Francisco Choral Society, under the artistic direction of Robert Geary, celebrates its 20th year anniversary with two performances of Verdi's Requiem, and the world premiere commissioned piece, Contraries: The Human Condition, by Donald McCullough at Davies Symphony Hall August 14 and 15 in 8pm concerts. The Choral Society will be accompanied by the 55 piece California Chamber Symphony and four outstanding soloists.

Verdi's Requiem is full of honesty and sincerity. From the hushed reverence to to the raging fury; from the overwhelming power to the sobbing grief, Verdi is a master at engaging a listener's emotional response.

McCullough's Contraries, based on the text of poet William Blake, is equal parts light-hearted, intense, urgent and peaceful.
