Andrew Mogrelia, fresh from conducting triumphs in Australia, returns to San Francisco to lead the Conservatory Orchestra in an ambitious program of powerful modern works––Shostakovich’s lesser known Cello Concerto No. 2, Op. 126, with soloist Jerry Liu, and Lutoslawski’s kaleidoscopic Concerto for Orchestra. Also on the program is Brahms’s Variations on a Theme of Haydn, Op. 56a, featuring student conductor Andrew Whitfield. Pre-concert talk at 7:15 p.m.
