Philip Glass is an icon. And this towering presence in American music has forged a special connection with San Francisco Performances’ audiences. Now, SFP brings you his Violin Concerto No. 2, The American Four Seasons in its worldwide premiere tour. Performed (and commissioned in part) by Robert McDuffie, “one of the finest violinists of our age,” alongside the outstanding Venice Baroque Orchestra, Glass’s contemporary The American Four Seasons is boldly juxtaposed against Vivaldi’s archetypically Baroque The Four Seasons in what promises to be one of the most unique programs you’ll see this year!

More About This Event
Robert McDuffie is the quintessential American violinist, despite having performed with most major European and American orchestras and founding the Rome Chamber Music Festival. His love affair with American repertoire began with Samuel Barber and is currently manifest in a new piece, commissioned from Philip Glass, which he will perform on Nov. 2 at Herbst Theatre. McDuffie spoke to SFCV, in his soft, southern accent, about his life and work.
