Featuring one of the most recognizable horn solos in the repertoire, Strauss’ tone poem Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks tells the story of a legendary mischief-maker who thumbs his nose at convention and creates mayhem wherever he goes. Also on the program is a world premiere for string orchestra from Assistant Concertmaster, Mark Volkert, the Orchestra’s longest tenured member. The program concludes with the majestic melodies of Beethoven’s final piano concerto performed by Grammy®-winning pianist Yefim Bronfman. Written in the shadow of Napoleon’s occupation of Vienna, the Emperor is one of Beethoven’s boldest and most heroic works.
“It's safe to say there is no pianist around remotely like Yefim Bronfman. Labor doesn't seem to ever enter the equation; he is simply everywhere, instantly and all the time.” —THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER
