MTT and Renée Fleming

San Francisco Symphony

San Francisco Symphony MTT and Renée Fleming

This program is rich in the vivid impressionism of Debussy. One of his most alluring works is sung by America’s regal soprano, Renée Fleming. “I was destined for a sailor’s life,” Debussy confided, “and it was only quite by chance that fate led me in another direction.” Nonetheless, he retained a “passionate love” for the sea, and his shimmering, crashing depiction of it has dazzled listeners for more than a century. The intriguing Jeux was his final work for orchestra.

“Perfect voice, endless breath, sensual tone . . . she is sheer perfection” —LE MONDE
