Program to include works by Mahler – Songs of a Wayfarer, Piano Quartet, selections from Symphonies 2, 3, and 7, early songs for voice and piano – and the Scherzo from Hans Rott’s Symphony in E major. Discover the genius of late Romantic master Gustav Mahler. Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony present an evening of songs, chamber music, and symphonic selections spanning Mahler’s career. Hear his varied influences, from music of his Jewish ancestry to the military cadences he heard as a child.
