This enchanting evening of music from France begins with Maurice Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole, an exotic homage to the folk music of the composer’s Basque heritage. SFS principal clarinetist Carey Bell and the young French piano virtuoso Jean-Frédéric Neuburger are the featured soloists in Debussy’s seductive Première Rhapsodie and Fantasie, respectively. Selections from the dramatic symphony Roméo et Juliette by Hector Berlioz, one of Western music’s greatest innovators of orchestral writing, showcase the Symphony’s entire arsenal.
Inside Music, an informative talk free to ticketholders, begins one hour prior to concerts.
