MUSIC
Gwendolyn Mok playing her rare, Paris-built 1875 Érard piano, gives us the sound of Brahms’ music as he heard it on the piano he cherished for its sturdy mechanism and harp-like sonorities. Brahms’ Piano Trios and Horn Trio (an elegy to his recently departed mother) are richly romantic works. We’ll hear Brahms’ 1890 revision of Op.8. His late piano music is introspective. The Op.118 is dedicated to Clara Schumann.
