Symphony Parnassus Young Violinist Stars in Samuel Barber Centennial

The brilliant thirteen year old violinist Alina Ming Kobialka is soloist in Samuel Barber's beloved Violin Concerto. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the composer's birth, conductor Stephen Paulson and Symphony Parnassus have included another Barber work, the rarely performed "Fadograph of a Yestern Scene." Composed in 1971 for the Pittsburgh Symphony, (Mr. Paulson played in the premiere), this nostalgic eight minute tone poem displays Barber's famous melodic gift. Tchaikovsky's overture-fantasy "Romeo and Juliet" rounds out the program.
