Clerestory: Night Draws Near
The always interesting men's choral group Clerestory, which draws several of its members from Chanticleer, has just released their second CD, Night Draws Near.
Their first concert of the season features music from that recording, anticipating Halloween by a week.
This group has never disappointed in all the times the group has been reviewed in SFCV. It's an extremely high-quality ensemble, and will appeal to anyone who loves choral music.
Michael Zwiebach is the senior editor/ content manager for SFCV. He assigns all articles and content, manages the writing staff and does editing. A member of SFCV from the beginning, Michael holds a Ph.D. in music history from the University of California, Berkeley.

Mic so much for hael,
I'm Clerestory's board..thanks so much for mentioning the upcoming concerts! I'd like to clarify that the Oct. 24 performance is in San Francisco, and Oct. 30 is in Sonoma.
Big shout out to SFCV for your work!
Sorry, cat walked across my keyboard: first sentence should reach "Michael, Thanks so much"
Glad to read Nancy's comment (and of course Michael's preview).
The first time my new cat, Zoe, walked on my computer keyboard this spring, she brought up the calculator. I didn't even realize I had it on my system.
I also fondly remember when a literature paper I wrote at Columbia for the distinguished critic Lionel Trilling had a smudgy marginal comment from him, in red ink. "My cat chose to lick this," he said by way of apology. (I think I got an A- anyway.)
Perhaps critics should be more like cats: independent thinkers, beholden to nobody, not cowed by shibboleths and outdated rules of "good grammar" or fears of being dissed for not toeing a line of political/artistic correctness. And, of course, always showing creativity and good taste.
As a lifelong lover of choruses (and sometime chorister), I'm glad that we at SFCV are able to review so much choral music, by groups like Clerestory, Volti, Chanticleer, girls choirs, boys choirs, and visiting international choruses, among many others.
