Fremont Opera: La Traviata

Fremont Opera
By Michael Zwiebach

Fremont Opera opens its La traviata next weekend. Local they may be, but they’ve scored with their Violetta: Danielle Talamantes, an up-and-comer slated to understudy at the Metropolitan Opera this season, who also won the Irene Dalis Vocal Competition in San José this past May.

Her Alfredo, Benjamin Bunsold, has been making the regional opera circuit rounds and was recently in the resident artist program at Glimmerglass Opera. Baritone Scott Bearden, the Germont, is a well-known quantity in the Bay Area and at Opera San José. The fully staged production by Jonathan Field will be conducted by Fremont Opera’s artistic director, David Sloss.

Michael Zwiebach is the senior editor/ content manager for SFCV. He assigns all articles and content, manages the writing staff and does editing. A member of SFCV from the beginning, Michael holds a Ph.D. in music history from the University of California, Berkeley.
