About Town (May 3-5)

Michael Zwiebach on May 2, 2013

May 3 and 4, Shannon Theater, Fremont High School: Before Stephen Sondheim wrote his convention-defying, form-opening musicals, he collaborated with comic writers Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove on A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, based on the bawdy comedies of the ancient Roman writer Plautus. If you’re in the mood for “Comedy Tonight,” take the kids to this production at Fremont High School.

May 4, noon - 4 p.m., Instrument sale at Crowden School, Berkeley: Crowden is holding an instrument sale this weekend, so if you’re in the market for violins and other stringed instruments (especially), or if you want to browse the LPs, curiosities, music scores, and more, bring the kids over for an hour.
