Mary Falvey, a founding board member of San Francisco Classical Voice (SFCV) and board chair since 2010, will end her term at the end of the current fiscal year, on Aug. 31. Under her leadership, SFCV set a new direction to engage more broadly in the community, cultivate a younger audience, and provide a larger array of services and journalistic offerings.
During Falvey’s tenure, SFCV’s website was redesigned; readership grew by an average of 60 percent each year; and advertising became a meaningful source of revenue. In addition, SFCV earned national recognition and built partnerships with Bay Area nonprofit organizations, including the San Francisco Symphony, on whose board she also serves, and radio station KDFC. Falvey focused particular attention on building SFCV’s financial support and its board of directors.
Falvey remarks, “I am proud and delighted to turn over the leadership of SFCV to the next generation, in the capable hands of Alisa Won. The organization is beautifully positioned to build on the credibility and trust earned by years of high-quality content to help attract new audiences to classical music and, in that way, serve producers and presenters of classical music, large and small, in the Bay Area and beyond.”
Won, the daughter of deeply musical parents (her father was a professional conductor), was steeped in music from childhood. Now a corporate partner at the law firm of Sideman & Bancroft, she looks forward to greater involvement in SFCV’s mission to grow the love of classical music.
“Mary inspires us all with what she has forged for SFCV with her passion and dedication,” Won comments. “With the work she’s accomplished, we have a platform to advance the organization for the benefit of our current constituents and also to explore ways to draw new listeners to classical music. SFCV has an important role in the Bay Area classical music ecosystem, and I look forward to seeing us further enrich it.”
Serving as officers with Alisa Won will be John Gambs, who continues as Treasurer, and Ching-Yee Hu, as Secretary.
