San Francisco Conservatory of Music will present the 20th annual Sarlo Family Award for Excellence in Teaching to César Ulloa, distinguished Professor of Voice at the Conservatory, at a convocation at noon on Sept. 24 in the Conservatory's Concert Hall.

The ceremony will conclude with a performance of Brahms' Two Songs for Alto, Viola, and Piano, Opus 91, by Catherine Cook, Jodi Levitz, and Keisuke Nakagoshi.

Among Ulloa's now-famous students from private coaching, the Adler Program, and elsewhere: Angel Blue, Ji Young Yang, Nadine Sierra (started with Ulloa at age 14), Eleazar Rodriguez (he was 16), Julie Adams, Wendy Buzby, Julia Metzler, Robert Watson, David Lomelí (“imported” to San Francisco from Ulloa’s program in Mexico), Amanda Squitieri, Kate Allen, Diego Torre, Daveda Karanas, and many, many more.

Frederica von Stade has said of the voice coach: "I’m grateful to know that there is such a guardian angel of singing right here in the Bay Area."
