It might seem crazy to some, but the Bay Area is hosting two great harpsichordists in concerts on the same day over the first April weekend. One of them is a visitor, the great Christophe Rousset, founder of the much-recorded orchestra Les Talens Lyrique, who performs as a guest of Music Sources, at Northbrae Community Church

Davitt Moroney, on the other hand, is on the faculty of UC Berkeley’s music department and has given a number of concerts for Cal Performances. Moroney is playing Bach’s Art of Fugue, one of the great interpretive mountains in music literature, while Rousset is playing music by French greats Jean-Philippe Rameau and Francois Couperin. Music Sources has happily relieved die-hard early music fans of having to draw straws to choose; Rousset's concert has been moved back to 6 p.m. That means you can easily see Davitt's recital at 3, hop in the car, pick up a few last-minute refreshments at the Northbrae Church, and slide into your seats in Haver Hall in plenty of time to hear Christophe. If you take up the harpsichordists' challenge, you'll have plenty of company.
