Marin Symphony: Vive la France!

Michael Zwiebach on April 25, 2013
Joyce Yang

Alasdair Neale and the Marin Symphony have put together a great Debussy-Ravel concert, ending with Debussy’s marvelous sea symphony, La mer. The biggest draw is probably pianist Joyce Yang, who’s a genuine star presence, on the first half of the program, playing Ravel’s well-loved Piano Concerto in G Major. (Read Jeff Kaliss’ Artist Spotlight with Yang) For starters, Yang plays Debussy preludes alongside orchestrated versions by eminent English composer Colin Matthews. Those who like their impressionism in sonic form will be swooning.
