No straight people will be turned away from auditioning for the Queer Chorus of San Francisco!
Formerly known as the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, QCSF (Sven Edward Olbash, artistic director) is excited to welcome singers of all genders, sexual orientations, and abilities throughout the month of September to audition to perform with us in one of three ways:
*regular chorus (intermediate level singers)
*solos and small ensembles (advanced intermediate singers)
*festival chorus (all levels)
Schedule your audition today.
Accompanied song—bring any song you enjoy singing (bring an accompaniment track, piano sheet music, or accompany yourself on guitar, ukulele, accordion, etc). Memorization preferred, even if you forget a few words. Don't try to impress us with your choice of song. We just want you to have the chance to sing something you already know and like.
Unaccompanied song: The Last Rose of Summer—download sheet music (single pdf contains versions for low, medium, and high voices) and do your best to learn on your own. Memorization is totally optional! We want to see how well you can prepare on your own outside of rehearsal, knowing full well that some singers won't prepare at all! Others will use this opportunity to show us they are ready to be assigned solos and small ensembles.
Sight singing—select from examples of varying difficulty. Don't worry about getting it perfect. Seeing how you recover from mistakes is an important part of the evaluation process.
Special skills (optional) Show us anything you're good at! Juggling, tap dancing, playing clarinet, speaking Ukrainian, baton twirling, lip synching, costume design, marketing, graphic design, motorcycle maintenance, etc.
Repertoire: Our Fall concert features arrangements of songs from Hollywood films arranged for piano, bass, drums, and SATB chorus with optional solos. Artists and composers include Bernstein, Sondheim, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, the Muppets, Lady Gaga, Olivia Newton John, Wendy Carlos, and selections from A Day in Hollywood/A Night in Ukraine, Mac and Mabel, and La La Land.
The Spring concert will feature unaccompanied classical works by LGBTQ composers and musical settings of works by queer poets.
