Concert Choir Director
San Francisco Waldorf High School Concert Choir Director, part-time
We at SFWHS are looking someone who can lead and conduct the Concert Choir, usually a group of 25-30 mixed voices (SATB), from grades 9-12. There is a piano accompanist for all rehearsals. The job would work well for someone who is looking for another “piece” to fit into their schedule of teaching, lessons, church, or other choirs. We hope to have music classes in person next fall.
The commitment is to 2 classes per week throughout the school year, with some extra time around two yearly concerts, winter and spring, presented by the whole music department. Compensation is based on hours taught, but with extra hours counted for preparation and for concerts. The hours are averaged and a salary is paid monthly for ten months per year.
The San Francisco Waldorf High School is a small HS of about 160 students, and all students take 4 years of music. They choose among several classes for one year at a time, including Orchestra, Jazz Band, Concert Choir, Beginning Guitar, Advanced Guitar, Exploring Music, and Eurythmy Troupe. These groups are led by professional musicians who are able to make part-time teaching at SFWHS a vital part of their lives.
The position of Concert Choir Director requires excellent musicianship and a background in singing and choral music. The ideal candidate will have experience with high school age singers, and the ability to inspire them to sing together. Familiarity with Waldorf education is preferred though not essential.
