David Kim

I am passionate about equipping students with the tools in order to develop and maintain a solid technical foundation as well as discovering the joys of musical expression. In my own training, I was taught to be curious and have a dialogue with my teachers, which helped me understand my own playing and potential. I am demanding in my approach and hope to instill my own passion for music to my students.

I am in my 9th season with the San Francisco Symphony. Prior to moving to SF, I was a student of Nobuko Imai's in Switzerland as a Fulbright Grant Scholar. My other primary teachers were Kim Kashkashian, Sam Rhodes, and Carol Rodland at the New England Conservatory and Juilliard School. I won 1st prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and 2nd Prize at the William Primrose Memorial Scholarship Competition.

I began teaching as an assistant to Carol Rodland at NEC, and over the years have worked with students at the conservatory level as well as high school and junior high. I'm sorry, but I don't teach at the beginning level.
