African American Composer Initiative Where Freedom Rings: Music by African American Composers

Musicians and guest artists of the African American Composer Initiative present the tenth annual concert benefitting Eastside College Preparatory School. The concert celebrates the music of African American composers in a wide-ranging program: spirituals, jazz, piano music, and instrumental and vocal chamber music. Bay Area singers and instrumentalists will be joined by New York jazz greats pianist Valerie Capers and bassist John Robinson. Performers are soprano Yolanda Rhodes, tenor Othello Jefferson, vocalist/pianists LaDoris Cordell and Deanne Tucker, pianist Josephine Gandolfi, violinist Susan C. Brown, cellist Victoria Ehrlich, flutist Stephanie McNab, clarinestist Carol Somersille, bassonist Rufus Olivier, saxophonist Oscar Pangilinan, trumpeter John Worley, Trombonist John Monroe, and percussionist Jim Kassis. Works by William Grant Still, Margaret Bonds, Undine Moore, Jacqueline Hairston, Joshua McGhee, Sean Okpebholo, Valerie Capers, John Robinson, Zenobia Perry, Regina Baiocchi, and Duke Ellington.
