ABS Festival: Public Colloquium - The Grand Tour of Italy
For centuries, The Grand Tour was a rite of passage. To complete one's education and attain a certain continental refinement, you simply had to embark. Italy was the primary destination: Cultural pilgrims flocked to the flourishing cities of Florence, Venice, and Rome to observe and experience the most glorious works of art, architecture, and music to be found anywhere in Europe.
Join William Berger–author, lecturer, and writer/producer for the Metropolitan Opera's radio broadcasts, and commentator on the Met's Sirius/XM broadcasts–and the ABS Faculty for a lively and informative discussion about The Grand Tour during the Baroque Era, Corelli and the impact of Italian style, and the eighteenth century craze for Italian opera.
