Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra

Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra Dvorak's The Spectre's Bride

Dvorak's colorful cantata, The Spectre's Bride, is based on a well known Czech folktale. A young bride is dragged off through the night by the ghost of her dead lover. they race over mountains and through forests as he tries to trick her into marrying him in a cemetary before sunrise. Commissioned for the Birmingham Music Festival, it's performance in 1885 was a triumph for Dvorak. The 200 plus singers and instrumentalists of the Berkeley Community Chorus & Orchestra will bring this rarely performed work to Hertz Hall under the baton of Ming Luke. The part of the would be bride is sung by soprano, Julia Metzlerm while the spectral groom is sung by tenor, Christian Ketter. Baritone, David Chiang, and the chorus serve as narrators of the ghostly tale. All three soloists are current winners of BCCO's Young Soloist Competition. Enjoy a musical ghost story, with all the drama Dvorak's score brings to the concert hall.
