Presented by California Bach Society

Artistic director Paul Flight leads the California Bach Society, Baroque orchestra, and soloists in splendid works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Jan Dismas Zelenka. A contemporary of Bach, Zelenka wrote his exuberant Missa Divi Xaverii in Dresden in 1729. The manuscript, damaged by fire and mold, needed major restoration and didn't see its modern-day premiere until 2014. The composition is scored for festive trumpets and timpani, along with strings, oboe, flutes, and bassoon; in character and instrumentation, it is the perfect partner to J.S. Bach's beloved Magnificat. The 30-voice award-winning chorus is joined by soloists: soprano Morgan Balfour, mezzo-soprano Gabriela Estephanie Solis, tenor James Hogan, and bass Christòpheren Nomura.
