Chamber Music San Francisco Assad Brothers

"The best two-guitar team in existence, maybe in history" (Washington Post)

Brazilian-born brothers Sergio and Odair Assad set the standard for guitar innovation, ingenuity and expression. Their repertoire is staggeringing wide, ranging from folk, jazz, and Latin styles to Bach and Debussy. The Assads also lead in creating new music for two guitars, inspiring composers from Astor Piazzolla to Terry Riley. They work with such renowned artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Paquito D'Rivera, Gidon Kremer and Dawn Upshaw.

The Assad Brothers’ recordings have won many awards and Grammy nominations. Their CDs with Yo-Yo Ma have won two Grammy awards; “Songs of Joy & Peace” (also featuring James Taylor and Dave Brubeck) topped both the classical and the mainstream Billboard charts. Five members of the Assad family recently toured to Qatar, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

Odair Assad is based in Brussels where he teaches at Ecole Superieure des Arts. Sergio resides in San Francisco, where he is on the faculty of the SF Conservatory of Music.
