The Diablo Symphony Orchestra and local choral group WomenSing take the imagination into the beyond with Gustav Holst’s The Planets at Walnut Creek’s Lesher Center for the Arts on Sunday February 24, 2:00 pm. The concert also features Peter Tchaikovsky’s popular and powerful Piano Concert No. 1 in B Flat Minor. Ticket prices are $35 for adults and $10 for Youth 13-17; children 12 and under are free but require a ticket. Before performing the magical chorus in The Planet’s final movement “Neptune, the Mystic”, WomenSing, known for its vibrant and beautifully blended sound, will open the concert with a surprise a capella choral work. The orchestra will then join forces with Christopher Richardson for Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, famed particularly for the pounding piano chords that launch its 1st movement. Richardson, winner of this season’s DSO Yen Liang Young Artists Competition, is a resident of Danville in the East Bay. He is currently pursuing a triple major in Music, Economics and Biology at UC Berkeley. A National Chopin Foundation scholarship recipient and YoungArts Winner, he studies piano with Mack McCray. The concert is being presented under the direction of Matilda Hofman, Music Director and Conductor of the Diablo Symphony Orchestra. WomenSing performs under the direction of its Artistic Director Ofer dal Lal.
