San Francisco’s Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet presents KRONOS FESTIVAL 2019, Kronos’ fifth annual three-day music festival. This year, the festival highlights the voices of singers, storytellers, and activists over three evening concerts, a Saturday morning family concert, and Kronos Labs, free public events that are new this year. Valérie Sainte-Agathe, artistic director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus and frequent Kronos collaborator, is the Kronos Festival 2019’s Artist-in-Residence. THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2019
Opening Night

Kronos Quartet with Valérie Sainte-Agathe and guests Rebecca Solnit, Meklit, Michael Wayne Turner III, Lee Knight, and the San Francisco Girls Chorus, as well as a special appearance by the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts Dragon String Quartet
Other program highlights include: Bay Area premiere of Stacy Garrop's "Glorious Mahalia," which celebrates legendary singer Mahalia Jackson through the words and spirit of oral historian and activist Studs Terkel; readings from Howard Zinn's "Voices of a People’s History;" world premieres Mark Applebaum's "Flashlight" and Missy Mazzoli's "Enthusiasm Strategies, both written for "50 for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire"

Kronos Quartet with Valérie Sainte-Agathe and guests CocoRosie, Jherek Bischoff, Sam Green, and the San Francisco Girls Chorus, as well as a special appearance by the Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts Dragon Saxophone Quartet
Other program highlights include: Kronos' oft-requested arrangements of music by Sigur Rós; a heartwarming live documentary short about the San Francisco legacy business Casa Sanchez

Family Concert / “Around the World with Kronos”

Kronos Quartet performs an eclectic and energetic mix of music from all over the world with help from Valérie Sainte-Agathe, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, Lee Knight, and singers from the San Francisco Girls Chorus’ Bayview Chorus Program, as well as a special pre-show performance by SFGC's Chorus School

Kronos Quartet with Valérie Sainte-Agathe and guests Sam Amidon, Meklit, Hawa Kassé Mady Diabaté, Lee Knight, Brian Carpenter, the San Francisco Girls Chorus, and others, as well as a special pre-show talk by Prof. Lucy Durán
Other program highlights include: a star-studded celebration of Pete Seeger’s musical legacy; the world premiere of works written by Diabaté for "50 for the Future: The Kronos Learning Repertoire" and inspired by Malian girl handclapping traditions
