La Mirtilla by Isabella Andreini
A world-premiere theatrical staged reading. Special Valentine's Day post-show reception to follow.
Seventeen years before the first performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream (1605), Isabella Andreini dedicated her pastoral drama, La Mirtilla (1588), to Lady Lavinia della Rovere. Yet, there is no evidence that this work has ever been performed! Andreini represents many shades of love in a comedic tapestry that stands out from other pastorals with its moments of gravity that resonate with today's #metoo movement. Our staged reading (in English, transl. Dr. Julie Campbell) will be performed with live music from the period by women composers.
This event is FREE to attend and open to the public. $10 suggested donations will be graciously received at the door. RSVP to [email protected]
