ANIMALIA MUSICALE: A Chorus of Critters

ANIMALIA MUSICALE: A Chorus of Critters

Music support starts with …art! Local Marin County artist, and Director of Marin County non-profit – Leslie Lakes - donates artwork to raise funds for E.L.M. – Enriching Lives Through Music. And, for everyone’s enjoyment, live music will be performed by students from E.L.M.

We are also holding a music instrument drive, so if you would like to donate an instrument to E.L.M., we encourage you to bring one to the opening.

SAN RAFAEL – The Department of Cultural Services and Marin Center are proud to host a very special fundraising art exhibit - ANIMALIA MUSICALE: A Chorus of Critters (February 1st – June 2nd, 2017).

Wednesday, February 1 ● 6pm-8pm
Redwood Foyer Gallery
Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium
10 Avenue of the Flags, San Rafael
RSVP to [email protected]

This special exhibit features over 75 images of both wild and domestic animals – from foxes to birds, bears to bunnies, dogs to cats and more – many of which are painted on musical score sheets by Marin County artist Leslie Lakes. These images tickle the senses and engage the viewer with a sense of play, joy, humor and a touch of whimsy. The exhibit celebrates the musical theme of the venue and adds another dimension to a concert evening. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork will directly benefit E.L.M. – Enriching Lives Through Music.

E.L.M. (founded and directed by Jane Kramer) is a Marin County non-profit organization that strives to enrich the lives of over 120 students from the largely Latino immigrant Canal neighborhood of San Rafael, California through free and intensive music programs. E.L.M.’s Mission is to inspire “…youth from underserved neighborhoods to thrive emotionally, socially and academically through music education, performance, and engagement in a vibrant center of musical excellence.”

This event is supported by P.A.T.H., Mill Valley, CA and sponsored by HOME & HEARTH OF MARIN, San Rafael, CA. The idea embraced by P.A.T.H. is that art empowers, transforms lives, provides a purpose and serves as a bridge to community spirit.
