Explorers Series: Les Parisiennes

Presented by Music@Menlo

Discover the pioneering artistry of the most influential women composers, musicians, and muses of Belle Époque Paris. Curated and performed by pianists Gilles Vonsattel and Wu Han, "Les Parisiennes" includes music by Lili Boulanger, the first woman to win the prestigious Prix de Rome for composition, and Louise Farrenc, the first female professor at the Paris Conservatoire. Actress Emma Bardac's indelible artistic influence on Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy is explored, along with Ravel's La Valse, inspired by cultural icon and pianist Misia Sert.
