The Oakland Civic Orchestra, conducted by Artistic Director Martha Stoddard and Assistant Conductors Christine Brandes and Shannon Houston, presents its “Honoring Black History” concert. The Orchestra is pleased to be joined by L. Peter Callender – renowned actor and Artistic Director of the African-American Shakespeare Company – who will narrate Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait, and by soloist Christina Owens in Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges’ Violin Concerto Op. 5 No. 1. The program also includes Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Ballade Op. 33 and James P. Johnson’s Harlem Symphony. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted.
