This program presents Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint George, born to a plantation owner and a slave, who became a virtuoso violinist and composer – combining the folk songs of his childhood in Guadeloupe with the sounds of Mozart. Symphony No.3 by Florence Price,the first African-American woman to be recognized as a composer,will be performed as well as Duke Ellington’s Harlem featuring Soprano Shawnette Sulker.
