Oshman Family JCC My Favorite Violin Sonatas - Lunch and Concert

Join two accomplished, prize-winning musicians as they share their favorite violin sonatas from composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Cesar Franck.

Born in 1978 in St. Petersburg, Russia, violinist David Chernyavsky began to study violin at the age of six, gave his first solo recital at the age of 11 and entered the Special Music School at the St. Petersburg Conservatory at the age of 15.

In 1997, he came to the United States to study at the Indiana University School of Music. David earned a Master's from the Juilliard School and joined the St. Petersburg String Quartet with whom he performed over 180 chamber music concerts and taught masterclasses. He spent time as Assistant Concertmaster of the Washington National Opera Orchestra and as a member of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He recorded CDs with the St. Petersburg Quartet and the Joel Rubin Klezmer Music Ensemble, and released his own solo CD, Klezmer Violin.

David joined the San Francisco Symphony in 2009. Since 2012, he has served as a faculty member at the San Francisco Academy Orchestra's Artist Diploma Program.

Originally from Moscow, Russia, pianist Asya Gulua lives in Oregon. At the age of six, she began studying piano at the Gnessin School of Music. In 1996 she immigrated to the United States and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she was a three-time winner of the Interlochen Concerto Competition. Since then, she has performed in concert halls throughout the U.S. She has also appeared in duo piano performances with her husband, pianist and composer Arsen Gulua. Asya holds degrees from The Juilliard School (B.M.), Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music (M.M.), and the University of Oregon (D.M.A.).

A hot buffet lunch will be served before the concert. The OFJCC provides rides for mobility-impaired seniors to some events. To make a reservation, call (650) 223-8741. Both are funded by the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.
