Presented by Pacific Opera Project

Join Pacifc Opera Project as the company rebroadcasts its critically acclaimed production of Madama Butterfly 蝶々夫人. This was the first ever true-to-story bilingual production of the opera, performed at the Aratani Theatre in Los Angeles’s Little Tokyo. POP’s first co-production, this was presented with Houston’s Opera in the Heights with a new libretto written by POP Artistic Director Josh Shaw and Opera in the Heights Artistic Director Eiki Isomura.

The production presents Puccini’s story as if it actually happened and attempts to answer the question: “How would Butterfly and Pinkerton communicate?” Isomura conducts a 23 piece orchestra and Josh Shaw directs.

The watch party will feature interviews with Shaw and Isomura, drink recipes, a costume contest, crafts, and more. POP has also created an Education Pack to send to music and drama teachers for use in distance learning, as well as parents who would like to use it with their children at home.

Tune in on June 15 at 5 p.m. PT on Facebook or on YouTube.
