Soprano Maria Bengtsson Concert: Celebrating the Beauty of Yosemite
Join us for a concert by soprano Maria Bengtsson featuring the world premiere of God’s First Temples, a song cycle by composer Anthony Plog, celebrating the beauty of the Yosemite and Hetch Hetchy valleys as described in the writings of John Muir. Ms. Bengtsson has performed at La Scala, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Salzburg Festival, and the Bolshoi Theatre. Plog has had a rich and varied international career in music—as a composer of operas, symphonic music, and chamber works; and as an orchestral musician, soloist, and recording artist.
The concert will also include music by Handel, Haydn, Brahms, Weber, and favorite arias from Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte and The Marriage of Figaro. Accompanying Ms. Bengtsson are celebrated pianist Tamami Honma as well as the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra (SFCO) All-Stars String Quartet. Honma maintains a busy performance and recording schedule as a piano soloist as well as serving as the Artistic Director of the Cal Arte Ensemble. The SFCO is one of the most vibrant and exciting ensembles in the Bay Area’s classical music scene with a distinguished history of community service.
