Presented by Redwood Symphony

A “space walk” for kids with music, a Sousa march with children conducting, and the audience and orchestra in costume create a magical afternoon for Redwood Symphony’s popular Halloween Family Concert on Sunday, Oct. 27, 3 p.m., in the Main Theater at Cañada College, 4200 Farm Hill Blvd., Redwood City.

The afternoon begins with the audience in full costume taking a Tour of the Orchestra to meet the musicians, learn about their instruments and ask questions. The family concert itself will feature some electronica, music by Zoltán Kodály, a John Philip Sousa march and even a bit of disco!

“We will be doing excerpts from Mason Bates’ B-Sides, including the use of electronica to simulate a space walk and a disco,” Maestro Eric K said of the holiday event he has hosted for decades. “We’ll also have Aaron Copland’s rip-roaring El Salón México, based on Mexican folk themes.”

The afternoon finishes with 10 young raffle winners from the audience leading the symphony in Sousa’s march Stars and Stripes Forever with their own batons while the audience joins in with glow sticks.

Pre-sale tickets are $15 for children and $30 for adults at RedwoodSymphony.org. Adult tickets are $35 at the door. Buy early since this concert almost always sells out. Parking at Cañada College is ample and free.
