Schola Cantorum Performs Carmina Burana
Schola Cantorum Silicon Valley will perform “Carmina Burana” Saturday, March 16th, 7:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Palo Alto; and Sunday, March 17th, 3:00 p.m. at Los Altos United Methodist Church. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at scholacantorum.org.
Described as a “scenic cantata,” the music is powerfully percussive, and the text, from a collection of 13th-century poems written by Bavarian monks, celebrates the joys of nature, love, lust, and drinking.
Schola is performing the version that composer Carl Orff sanctioned for two pianos and six percussionists. Crystal Children’s Choir, Dr. Karl Chang, director, opens the concert with a set of pieces, and Schola’s soloists, Tonia D’Amelo, soprano, Michael Desnoyers, tenor, and baritone Igor Vieira are featured throughout Orff’s work.
Schola Cantorum Silicon Valley is an auditioned 75-voice chorus, under the baton of Gregory Wait. Its mission is to connect the Silicon Valley community with the wonders of choral music through outstanding live performances, educational outreach programs, and collaborations with local artists.
