SF State School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble of San Francisco State: Lugares Comunes

The Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble of SF State performs a wide variety of themes and styles from Latin America, the Caribbean and New Orleans. Featuring music of Chick Correa, Cubanismo, Inti-Illimani, Ivan Lins, Sara Montiel, Quetzal, Pancho Quinto and Tito Rodriguez.

Founded in 1999, the Afro-Cuban Jazz Ensemble of SF State aims to expose the larger listening audience to the richness of Cuban and other Latin American music styles that have so influenced American popular music styles. The ensemble has performed at San Francisco’s Carnaval and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and live on KPFA radio, and with legendary performers such as Orquesta Aragón, Israel “Cachao” Lopez and Benny Velarde. The ensemble has contributed significantly to the Bay Area’s multicultural music and art community.
